CD Jewelcase (incl. 8 page booklet)
RELEASE DATE: 25/11/2022
Melbourne prog/alt metal giants Circles mark their momentous return with ‘The Stories We Are Afraid Of | Vol:1’, the first EP release of an epic 2 part EP, out via Wild Thing Records on November 25th, 2022.
In the midst of being in the longest locked down city in the world, the group found solace in writing the next chapter of the Circles story. Following on from the major international success of album The Last One (2018), the resulting Vol:1 EP showcases the band’s evolving sound; exemplified by innovative songwriting nous coupled with subtle technicality, whilst also demonstrating familiar elements that have attracted a loyal global fanbase over their extensive career.
Vol:1 displays Circles’ direct and textured approach to alt/prog/metal to full effect, soaring with their artful and sensitive exploration to songwriting. Whether they’re marching through angular heavy riffs, tip-toeing across delicate electronics, or bobbing in subtle clean waves, the band takes you on an unforgettable journey that demands attention. The Stories We Are Afraid Of | Vol:1 is produced and mixed by Circles’ own Ted Furuhashi (Twelve Foot Ninja -Silent Machine), with its music videos directed by Circles’ David Hunter (Caligula’s Horse -Slow Violence), and mastering duties handled by Luke Cincotta (Karnivool -Asymmetry)

lyrics
I fell asleep, and dreamed that time would wait for me
All the while, the earth was moving under my feet
The wishing well you thought you’d flooded out
Is running dry, scorched by the things you thought you knew
And now all I can taste is dust
A life lived in compromise
I’ve been sleepwalking through time
Whose hands will bury me
Got everything to lose and I won’t back down
Tearing out my heart to see what I have found
But if I disappear would it make a sound
Before I’m in the ground
I filled my mind with every wall I could
To stop my eyes from seeing what I knew they should
I was hidden from the world within
Got everything to lose and I won’t back down
Tearing out my heart to see what I have found
But if I disappear would it make a sound
Before I’m in the ground
Got everything to lose and I won’t back down
Tearing out my heart to see what I have found
But if I disappear would it make a sound
Before I’m in the ground
Every single member of this band is incredibly skilled in their own right, but I love how much they accentuate each other's talents into these masterful tracks. The whole album is excellent. I'm so happy they were finally able to come to my home state and perform.
Incredible band, can't wait to listen to what comes next. quantumquail
Perhaps a softer, more “pop-forward” album compared to Inmazes and Witness however equally as effective. Vola simply know how to make approachable and great music. 8/10 RJ
Midwestern prog-metal stalwarts go for the throat on their new EP, featuring a roiling cover of the Smashing Pumpkins' “1979.” Bandcamp New & Notable Aug 7, 2019
Me encanta este album porque refleja el gran esfuerzo y dedicacion que Daniels ha hecho en su carrera, y se nota lo mucho que le gusta. Las personas no se comprenden al 100% entre realidades, pero la música es un lenguaje indescriptible. Felicidades Dan, te lo has ganado. dxgrid
